What we’ve got here is another one of those pages that really needs the help of the pages that precede it to make sense. To put it in the proper context, go back and read the whole scene (seven pages in total). After that you can probably make a pretty good guess of who’s at the door.

Looks like a dial caliper. A T-square would have a longer cross piece, and be symmetrical.
