Woo hoo! I made it to page 200! *throws confetti* Next goal is to get to page 300.
Because you know how much I love giving you all the slightest excuse to go archive diving, here is Darvin’s last encounter with Aria. And be sure to come back on Tuesday to find out what the heck Fusella’s on about.
I am currently in the middle– almost the exact middle, at the moment– of the long-awaited sequel to The Name of the Wind, The Wise Man’s Fear by Patrick Rothfuss. I’ll admit, I approached this book with some small trepidation. Why? Well, I loved The Name of the Wind. I’ve re-read it (and re-listened to the audiobook) many, many times. I’ve been waiting nearly three years to learn more of the mystery that is Kvothe. You know how something you’re looking forward to that much rarely lives up to your expectations? Yeah. I worried about that. But I am pleased to report The Wise Man’s Fear has not let me down! It’s taken a severe force of will to not abandon all my precious drawing time in order to keep reading it. The story has been everything I’ve hoped for, full of wonderful little moments to grin at and thoughtful scenes to ponder. To be fair I haven’t yet reached the end of this massive book yet– and I know there is still one more book to go– so I can’t say with honesty that the whole thing is brilliant. But all signs point to this being a most worthy successor. Highly recommended.
So what have you all been reading lately?
YAY 200! ::throws confetti::
What Fusella’s on to: There are two possibilities: a) Fu thinks the cat has gotten into Aria’s quarters, setting up a (supposed) visit there; or b) Fu is just pouncing on Darvin for being overly-curious about Aria. Or, you know, a little of both.
Reading: Haven’t read a lot of novels lately (mostly just a handful of Dave Barry humor books), but I still have R.A. Salvatore’s Gauntlgrym and George R. R. Martin’s A Storm of Swords on the shelf waiting to be read. Other than that, I’ve been reading quite a few web comics (besides Galaxion): Juathuur: Gatecrash, Legend of Bill, Wayfarer’s Moon, and Amya among them. (I’ve added over a dozen to my favorites list just since starting Galaxion! Has it really only been a year and a half? Gosh.)
Lol “Let me change the topic by finding out more about your crew so I can flirt with them later!” And I wonder that Fusella is on about, did she install an extra tracker on Aria or something?
As for reading, an awful lot of Romantic poetry for school (I now have to read 250 pages of Lord Byron over my break, whimper) but for fun I have a non-fiction book about 19th century courtesans and reading the second book in the Kieli series (light novel). And of course, I’m reading tons and tons of webcomics as well. (actually, the only one insectoid listed that I didn’t know was Legend of Bill)
Maybe Fusella thinks Aria could solve some of the Galaxion’s problems?
Last book I’ve read was “Iron Council” by China Miéville. Good book, but by the middle of it I had to drop it for a while because it was urning a little “slow”. After that it regains momentum. Nevertheless, the best of China Miéville’s is (at kleast until now) “Perdido Street Station”. I recommend it very strongly. Now I’m reading some comics (mostly printed, some web) and have many books waitin to be read. The next one will be “Anthem” by Neil Stephenson.
Sorry about the typos. Message should be written like this:

@Gabriel
I think that you might be thinking of Neil Stephenson’s Anathem, his own word related to both “Anthem” and “Anathema”.
I’m going to be picking up ‘The Wise Man’s Fear’ shortly — I’ve been really looking forward to it. Patrick Rothfuss has the beard of a young Alan Moore, so he must be doing something right.
I just finished ‘Cowboy Angels’, by Paul McAuley. It’s a SF/AH/spy story, kind of like if John Le Carre wrote ‘Sliders’. Great concept, stylish execution, but it had a disappointing ending.
Now I’m reading ‘Heartless’, Book 3 in Gail Carriger’s crazy and fun Victorian/paranormal romance/steampunk/AH ‘Parasol Protectorate’ series.
After that, it’s on to some Elizabeth Bear, who I’ve never read before, based on a recommendation by a member of my writers group.
Why do Ihave this mental image of Fusella using opera to solve a problem?
@Vulpis, by that do you mean that she’s making overtures to Darvin as a prelude to something else?
Reading: Pluto by Naoki Urasawa (Manga); The Seventh Tower, by Garth Nix (Fiction); War in a Stringbag by Charles Lamb (non-fiction). Just finished One of Our Thursdays is missing by Jasper Fforde (Ffun).
Yay 200!
Unfortunately university has me far too busy to properly sit down and read a good book, so all I’ve had time to read are webcomics. Aand because no one else seems to have mentioned it, I shall point all of you who do not already know of it towards The Adventures of Dr. McNinja by Christopher Hastings and Anthony Clark (http://drmcninja.com/). I must, however, advise you to not go reading though the archive unless you have a lot of time on your hands (or time that you wish to waste) because there is a lot to read there.
Saluton!
Congratulations on #200!
On to the next 200!
Ad Astra!

Congrats on the 200, of which I have just read in one sitting. (And I’m off to work to sleep!)
May be a bit odd, but I can just see Fu in a Bison costume in the last panel.
Congrats on 200! Woohoo!
Darvin’s got such a “What HAVE I done here?” look!
Hooray, 200!
>>So what have you all been reading lately?
A weird mix of 1930s Modernist poetry, Jack Kerouac, and Scholarly Essays (for class); Buddhist sutras, Borges, Zen texts, H.G. Wells, and Dunsany (for a short story I’m writing) and uh… probably some books for pleasure in there somewhere…
The book I’ve read recently that I enjoyed the most is Ha Jin’s “In the Pond” (http://www.amazon.com/Pond-Ha-Jin/dp/0375709118) It’s outright hilarious.
