Yes, we have no hyenas. (Apologies to those of you who haven’t the faintest idea what I’m talking about!)
I know many of you clever readers have already spotted the wide variety of possible problems associated with being exposed to unknown bugs. If you’re curious, I did consider putting more of that kind of discussion into the script, but eventually decided to just move things along. Not much point in them worrying aloud over things they can’t do anything about! Well, I guess you could release some of that pent-up worry about your friend by taking out your frustrations on a nearby easy target…
Also, did you know I have a book published by Scholastic Education Canada? This was, as you may recall, the reason why I was posting reruns all last summer! And now, I have proof it exists! Check it out!
What, they don’t have spacesuits?
Well, yes, they do, but not stuffed into their pockets or anything….!
“They found lichen on the big ships? For crying out loud, they should clean more often.”
Yeeeeeah… this is why I don’t do a humour strip. Anyway, maybe I should rephrase Aria’s dialogue there.
“They found lichen on the big ships? For crying out loud, they should clean more often.”
I think that would actually be a pretty amusing line. But I have an abnormal sense of humour.
“They found lichen on the big ships? For crying out loud, they should clean more often.”
That didn’t even occur to me! I assumed the big ships went to interesting places and found lichen there… not on the ships themselves! XD
And I agree with Stripey, that’s a pretty funny line! Then again, I also have a somewhat bizzare sense of humor…
Gah. Should be “bizarre,” not “bizzare.” That word and I have a history of misunderstandings.
I did mean that the lichen was found on planets, by contact teams that worked on big ships… but when I was reading over the page today it hit me what Aria actually said could be a great straight line for those with a Groucho Marx style sense of humour! D’oh! But yeah, not what I intended. Should I try to alter her dialogue to make it more clear where the lichen was found?
@emilyrin, I sympathize– I can’t spell “bizarre” without a dictionary, either!
Darn, and I want a big lichen-covered asteroid starship…
It’s just that exploring an unfamiliar biosphere it might be sensible to wear spacesuits even if the air appears to be breathable. Space malaria and all that.
Aaand turns out they could’ve saved themselves a lot of trouble if they’d done that (which should be quite obvious). Then on the other hand it’d impact their dexterity and we wouldn’t get to see their character designs as clearly.
I get the hyena comment now… and am unreasonably proud of that.
