Hey everybody, last week I was a guest on the TGT Webcomics podcast! It’s a long one, clocking in at somewhere over two hours, but if you’re the sort of person that likes audio entertainment while you work, more is better, right? One of the traditions of the show is the host, Kurt, asking their webcomic guest of the week for a spoiler. So be warned, there is a small spoiler near the end!
Ah, the good ol’ black box shield.
Dear Ship’s Log. Today our experimental drive went predictably berserk and we landed on Earth, only it’s not *our* Earth because New Zealand isn’t a Peter Jackson theme park yet. Something has gone horribly wrong in this planet’s history. There are still… there are still *butterflies*. I stepped on all I could but I don’t think it will be enough to make a difference. And… I write this knowing it is so monstrously insane, so hideously wrong, that I must be living a nightmarish hallucination… there’s no Internet.
Dear Ship’s Log. It’s true. It’s all true. No Internet! No Facebook! No more Farmtown! Invisible Twitter is invisible! DO NOT WANT!
Unfortunately our thermostellar munitions have already learned applied phenomenology and left us. There is only one thing to be done. I must kill everyone and encrypt this log so no future expedition can learn the dark secret of this forbidden planet.
Too late! They are coming THROUGH the walls -
*dies laughing*
And on the next page they turn the box over and find these words hastily scratched into it: “Drums… drums in the deep… they are coming…”
All right… you had to do it, didn’t you?
The ‘ANY’ key?
Nate and Tara: BAHAHAhahaha!!!
ANY key: Whoa…that’s too funny. I missed that.
Those comments… you guys are amazing ^^.
@Nate – nice one, made me laugh ^^
@Tara – you stole my idea ^^
And no, I didn’t notice the ANY key on first sight… one should carefully study those paintings…
Can you feel Nelson’s impatience growing? Next she will blow something up to calm down…
Er… about this “ANY key”… I’m never quite sure if I should be saying “Yes, yes, that’s exactly what I meant, well done for noticing!” when someone accuses me of being clever or if I should own up and admit I have no idea what you’re talking about! But David pointed out to me that the button on Scavina’s notepad might be misleading. Since it will eventually be obvious in the higher resolution print edition anyway, I offer a close-up of the panel for your perusal.
@Haviland, Scavina is definitely feeling the stress of the situation….
Well I admit I was squinting at the screen to verify what I believed I saw at first glance, but now that I’ve seen what it really was, the ANY key probably makes more sense…
Oooohhhhh… I wanted to see an ANY key… *sniff*
Never mind… I really like the story ^^
Actually the key (the two large curling arrows) looks like the new Twitter retweet symbol. Now I’m imagining Zan (it’s his ‘notepad’, right live-tweeting everything as @Zandarinoriginal
Love the artwork on this page. I mean all your work is great but the tech huddle in panel 1 is superb.
