I used to do a lot of watercolours, the easiest way back then to slap some colour on a picture. Here, Fu has started to have that style of hair with the really large curls, the sort that doesn’t exist in nature except by means of daily applications of big hair rollers. I’m quite sure that this was a direct result of reading the comic Area 88, which was one of the earliest translated manga comics to come to North American comic shops. Shin’s girlfriend had hair that looked like this. Also a 70′s thing, come to think of it. This picture resides in Wendy’s collection, so thanks go out to her for scanning it in for me.
