Fun trivia: I’ve recently become obsessed with Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton, and while listening to the soundtrack over and over I realized that our Chief Engineer’s name has the same musical cadence as the lead character of the play. You can sing “Alexander Anderson” the same way they sing “Alexander Hamilton.” And it’s probably true to say our Alex is right now thinking to himself, There’s a million things I haven’t done, but just you wait…
Yup, that’s the reaction I expected.
Is he really that dense? Well of course he is, given his people skills, his position and authority, yep he is that dense. Asks for manpower and help then has no idea what they are talking about when they show up to help.
To be fair, Aria is selling this a bit creepily.
He is still typically dense. And why be fair?
Well, to start, this is just the opening of the conversation. Maybe we should wait until the conversation finishes before judging his reaction.
But also because he has not shown himself to be a bad person, rather as someone who is doing his best to do his job and is used to things happening in a certain way. He is rigid but still competent and focused on his job. Such as his request for manpower being answered first trough the proper channels. You know, something Aria could have done by discussing the idea with Fusella or even directly approaching the chief with a question before she rounded up the people. And not just a group of people showing up in the middle of nowhere, interrupting whatever he was doing.
The Galaxion is a lax environment compared to what he is used to and thus it is no surprise that what he is used to and what is clash a bit. Yes, he is stubborn and rigid but that does not make him a bad person.
To be fair, the fact that he phrased it as a statement instead of a question DOESN’T indicate that he’s confused: he thinks they can’t be helpful, instead.
Yup, same old Alex…
Thanks for posting more regularly Tara. Always enjoy seeing a new episode.
Ever since you put Galaxion online, the website has the tagline Life. Love. Hyperspace.
We’ve had various life details. Several bouts of hyperspace. Where’s the Love?
We’ve seen few romantic hints in the storyline. In the original paper version it was hinted that Xanderin was Aria’s potential love interest. In the online version, maybe Darin.
I admit that I am shipping hard on Alex! He has shown zero interest in interpersonal entanglements, which in my humble opinion, would make this setup fun.
Alex and Fusella
Nice to see that the tradition of the Right Stuff / Law and Order credits Power Walk lives on in the future.
