Previously: Aria starts to come to her senses. The Miesti are baffled that their venom didn’t work as usual. Both Aria and the Miesti picked up some interesting tidbits of information from the experience.
You may remember this page from the pencils I posted a few weeks ago in that Photoshop Tricks without Photoshop blog post. Finally you get to see how it turned out!
Poor Aria. (That’s about the fiftieth time I’ve said that…)
By ‘other one’, do they mean the lady we met a few pages ago, or someone else altogether? (A la old issue 11?) Hmm!
The “other one” could be Patty. The Miesti do not seem happy that Aria can eavesdrop on their conversation.
At least one of the Miesti doesn’t seem happy (our resident grump yssalla if I remember the name right). The others may be more shocked than angered, I think.
We can only hope that’s the case. I rather prefer to view this as akin to an episode of Star Trek where the peculiar aliens can be reasoned with as equals by the end of the episode, not an episode of Stargate SG-1 where they’re unrepentantly evil parasites that must be destroyed…
It always has to be one extreme or another? Can’t there be some middle ground or disparate groups of thought?
I smell factions!
Well, considering one is where they can be reasoned with, and the other is where they can’t be…? That’s pretty much the extent of dealing with Starfish Aliens I would assume. Sure, there can be nuances within each possibility, but there’s still the polarity around whether or not they can be reasoned with, which would determine whether humans and they can exist in the same universe peacefully.
Ooo, I definitely also feel the extra thin middle bottom panel was a worthwhile addition. And we’re starting to get beyond the paper copies at last! Woo!
Insectoid, I don’t quite think the Other One is like the old issue 11, considering that one had been setup quite carefully. Patty is a much more proper guess.
That’s what I get for doing my musing at o-dark thirty in the morning.
Hm? If they can get to Patty, that is. I was first thinking maybe it was the engineer Nelson, who was said to be heading straight into the Miesti/Rautani camp. I could have seen him as trying to reason with the Miesti, if he could. Maybe he couldn’t ‘perceive’ their communications like Aria, though, or at least didn’t show that he could. He may or may not have survived the trenat, though, if he was stung. I suppose in time we may find out what happened to him.
So yssala is the pointy one, uuiath has crescents, and eheyal is dead… have we heard the name of the oval one yet?
Well, here’s your behind-the-scenes-trivia for the day: the third Miesti, the one with the oval-ish spots, is named Sussa. I’d written dialogue for this scene where Sussa was named, but it got cut somewhere along the line.
Hah! You just named it that to show off your fancy letter s! “Suſſa”.
Hmm, the Miesti are really pushing their luck on people’s responses here. Sending people to sleep because you don’t like them listening to your conversations isn’t something that most people I know would regard as acceptable behaviour.
If I had that power I would use it all the time.
If I had that power I’d use it on myself every night. It really sucks spending over an hour every night trying to get to sleep, what a huge amount of time per day wasted.
