Sorry to hear about your internet problems! (Heh, 404.)
This trenat-induced ability of theirs, if they still have it, does raise some ethical issues…
I would totally react the way Darvin is right now. -However- it seems to me that he’s pretty suspicious…he keeps having these weird moments that make me think he knows/is part of something that’s not on the up and up that he’s worried about. That face in panel 7 says to me he’s very worried about them finding out something. I used to be happy about him and Aria getting together but lately I’m thinking that might not be such a good idea. Also watching the interaction between Aria & Zandarin is way too much fun (or heart-tugging, like today) and I just keep wanting more of that
Yeah, Darvin’s face in panel seven definitely seems to be a “holy $#!+, am I exposed?!” kind of face.
It’s probably the best reaction face I’ve seen all day, though.
Whether Darvin has any secrets to hide may no matter as much as the fact that he, and the entire crew of the Galaxion, are going to be stuck together with two mind readers whose abilities cannot be measured for the next few months.
Cabin fever knowing that the other person can know all your secrets by the end of the trip? Can’t wait to see what the reactions of the rest of the Galaxion and the Hiawatha survivors will be.
Of course, it could be just that he’s fallen madly in love with Aria and doesn’t want her, or Zan, to know. After all, life, love and hyperspace.
That was my guess as well.
And the looks he’s getting from Aria and the General as he lets the reaction out…?
Also – I feel bad for the ‘second man” – trapped in debris, almost jettisoned into space – and the Admiral still doesn’t know your name!
Better question Davin, “did Aria have to ‘hear’ Patty’s brain dying?” Erg.
And she’ll always be stuck with “yes” as an answer, like it or not…
I wonder… That Darvin, artful dodger of personal questions, might have something to hide is certainly a nifty reason for his “oh crud” face, but there might be another. Specifically, the unanswered questions of “what caused the mains to malfunction?” and “why was there another person in the Deep Freeze that nobody but Zan knew about?” I think Darvin just found a possible connection.
Consider: Zan, Aria, and Patty all were stung by the Miesti, and all became telepathic as a result… but Zan and Aria’s testimonies so far mention reading each others’ thoughts and those of the Rautani (also Miesti-stung). As this page showed, that telepathic link was what led Aria to Patty.
So far, the telepathy demonstrated only happens between people who were stung. But Zan “heard” the trapped extra crewmember in the Deep Freeze.
Which leads to another question: why did nobody else know about that crewmember? While I doubt the Deep Freeze is a high security section, it is a section with hazardous equipment and/or materials, and so I’d expect entry would be strictly controlled. You’d want to know who’s in the Deep Freeze at any time. So Ewan knew about one crewmember besides Anna, but the other one was a mystery to him. Ergo, we had someone who was where they weren’t supposed to be.
Combined with a mystery malfunction and Darvin might be drawn to the idea of sabotage.
Now the telepathy angle gets dropped into the mix. If the Trenat-induced telepathy does cause someone to read anyone’s mind, as we’re all assuming, then Zan’s hearing the other person’s mind is interesting but doesn’t add anything to the investigation. But, if telepathy is limited only to those people who have been injected with Trenat… then our mystery crewmember is also telepathic, and that leads to the questions of “how” and “why”.
Yeah, I think whoever suspected the Miesti might have stowed aboard might be right…
Interesting interpretation there!
