Well, service ID beacons aside not pinging, if all you are looking for is a yes/no Solar System, all you need to do is take a spectrogram of the star. Each star has their own, like DNA. If it isn’t a spectral match to Sol, it ain’t the Solar System. Now *where*…. that’s a whole different ball park. And with their power issues, doubt they have any to spare for parsing data from telescopic and other positional scans right off. Presuming this ain’t dimensional hopping them all over the place.
