Every so often I feel I should lend a helping hand to those of you reading week-to-week, or who are dropping by for the first time. So if you find yourself scratching your head wondering who Fusella and Nadya are talking about here… They’re talking about Zan and Aria, not to mention Patty, all members of the Galaxion’s Survey Contact Team. Their troubles began way back in Chapter Four, and came to a head in Chapter Nine.
You can start at the beginning of this chapter to get yourself up to speed in short order, or if you’re looking to enjoy a long and leisurely read you can jump back to the very beginning.
Gotta look on the bright side… at least they’re not mindless zombies…
At the moment, they’re still finding it too easy to “walk around” in each other’s minds, though…
I hate to mention it, but I think you reversed the direction of the spiral of your stairs in the last frame
I tried to prove you wrong, or at least see how you got that, but In the name of the Emperor I believe you’re right!
LOVE the central staircase! Squee!
Love it too. Should we be able to see the landing behind Fusella? It’s visible behind a speech bubble on the previous page, and is about four steps wide but appears not to be there on this page.
The staircase looks nice, but it is more like a picture from Escher (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Escher_Waterfall.jpg), than a real staircase. Here the landing would be three steps to low and would not connect correctly to the center. And parts of the handrail are missing also. But this could be design before function.
Made up something with SketchUp, to show the difference:

There are a lot of other examples under “spiral staircase”, but they usually don’t have this proportions.
P.S.: The staircase in the last panel goes the wrong way around. So really an “escherian stairwell”.
Maybe there’s a big mirror on this level, and Tara chose to artisticly show us the last panel from the reflection in the mirror.
Since the surgeon’s book thing was in her left hand and is in her right in the last panel, this is obviously the case.
Except that the words “Level 4″ are still facing the right way…
Well spotted! Meanwhile I was too busy thinking it was just so pretty…
Got a SketchUp 7 version of that staircase?
Those stairs wouldn’t pass Building Regulations or Health and Safety in the UK, the gaps in the railings are too wide with attendant risk that equipment or people (especially children) could fall through. Of course this vessel having been built as a rich man’s pleasure yacht may have been able to ignore such regulations. And the railings look much nicer this way.
There could be invisible plexiglass in the railing. The bigger problems are on the last page. Changing step heights from almost zero up to over half a meter and large gaps between several steps. Even on a rich man’s pleasure yacht this wouldn’t be ignored.
Regardless of all these little glitches, the drawing is beautiful. I cannot even begin to imagine how I would draw something like this.
True enough, that!
One wonders about the Starfleet Regulatory Agency as well.
Hmm, depending on how their artificial gravity works, it may be possible to have the stair case under substantially lower gravity. Which would make a wonky staircase more feasible as a rich man’s toy.
My question is why there isn’t any mention of blood filtration and/or replacement. If gets from the bite to the brain, it is probably carried in the blood. That means pulling the blood might do some good. So, either they didn’t stock the stuff for it, or the doctor is contaminated and compromised.
If the latter, there is an urgent need to shoot the doctor, kill the others, and then, captains choice of setting the ship to go burn up in the sun, or send it back, abandoned, with warnings.
Blood has plenty of particles that are supposed to be there so that you cant just run it through a filter. Replacement requires blood and I doubt they would have a supply.
The staircase on the other hand… somehow reverses chirality in the last panel.
This spaceship looks like it was designed by the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce!
Well, “refitted from former pleasure yacht”, after all…
