In the labs, they take the long view.
So, it’s that time of year when we start planning next year’s convention trips. There are a few that are no-brainers, like TCAF and FanExpo (both local to me), but the tricky part is figuring out where we’re going to go beyond that. I’m not ready to go anywhere I would have to fly to (unless some kind organizer was willing to cover my travel expenses!), so sadly that pretty much cuts out all the nice shows on the west coast. I’m interested in going to the C2E2 show in Chicago, because I have such good memories from the Chicago Comicon (before Wizard took it over and ruined all the fun). It appears to be in March next year, which will make for possibly-interesting driving. I also intend to do one of the New York City shows at last, probably the one that just happened last month, so next October. I’m undecided on the rest. Any suggestions? Are you a reader who would plan to spend piles of money at my table, if only I appeared at your favourite show? (Do I even have any con-going readers in Chicago?) Let me know!
Suggestions for the lab guys/gal: Professional help? Hmm… maybe stop drinking that hazardous coffee…
Not sure if they were about to come to blows or if Fu almost needed to peel them off the ceiling due to her interruption (and way too much of that coffee). I’d say more the former since Mal seems to be holding them apart (and perhaps down as well). I’d say they’ve got several equally likely conclusions to be drawn from what they’ve found out and have run out of ideas on how to get data that would let them decide which is most likely. Thus major frustration.
Love to see you at Dragon*Con one year, but Atlanta is probably just a wee bit too far to drive, alas.
As a regular Dragon*Con goer, I’ll second that. Unfortunately, both parts.
They look like they need to reach some kind of decision about something.
Maybe they could use a suggestion at this point.
Anyone else notice the post-it note on the wall in panel 4? BYOC – you KNOW what that must mean, if it’s on the walls in the lab!
BYOC (?)
Bring Your Own Coffee?
Bring Your Own Computer?
My personal answer would be “Bring your own Chocolate” – but given this is Mal’s crew, I have no doubt it’s Coffee!
What, not Cookies!?
Given their present situation, that could also be Concept, or Conclusion, but just as easily Confusion or Catastrophe !
You know, I had something in mind when I doodled that bit in, but I’m really not sure anymore. I actually like that it can be interpreted so many different ways! Bring Your Own Caffeine might cover all the bases nicely, though!
I have only been to one of the New York conventions, but I’ve been 4 times, as it’s a great con: The MoCCA Art Fest. It’s an awesome big small press show (if that makes sense), which a lot of webcomic artists attend (including other GAM folks like Laura Wilson, Dylan Meconis, and Raina Telgemeier).
Another one that’s closer to you is New England Webcomics Weekend, right here in Western Massachusetts. However, I don’t know yet when the next one will be. The second one just happened last weekend, and that was 1.5 years after the first. So we’ll see.
So…everybody awake now?
I’m curious what that hope to figure out: what dimension they’re in? Since parallel dimensions is strictly theory in the Galaxion universe, I’m guessing they don’t have sensors to detect other dimensions; which makes it pretty hard to pilot back to the one you came from. Unless they can figure out how to make the engines go in reverse, they’re kind of stuck in this one.
Assume there are infinitely many parallel universes. The Galaxion managed to jump to exactly the same one as the Hiawatha. Therefore there must be something about the Nelson engine that precisely chooses where to jump. Therefore there is hope that this can be reversed. They need to find Jeff Nelson…
LOL! Sciencey-engineeringy people are the same everywhere. Doesn’t matter what the conversation is, we’ll start arguing about the technical details. No one’s allowed to be wrong!!

Urgh, the scientific types who are so literal and scientifically accurate as to gut every figure of speech they come across. I know a few people like that. Great folks otherwise but oh so tiresome in that one regard!
