Here’s another reminder that I’ll be in Baltimore August 28-29 for the Baltimore Comic Con. This is my last show of the year (at least, I think it is…), so please come out of you can! Galaxion co-creator Wendy… *looks furtively around for her presence, then continues in a whisper* is preparing a cool surprise for us all, so you won’t want to miss it. Also, if you are interested in buying any of the original pages, let me know your preferences in advance and I can be sure to have them on hand at the show. There’s a small selection that have been sold or are otherwise unavailable, but first come first served, of course.
I wasn’t going to talk about Star Pirates (see blog post) again for a while, but I had to share this with you: this past Sunday one of the players hosted a webcomics trivia contest. (Man, I thought I was familiar with a lot of webcomics, but I was boggled for well over half of the answers.) By sheer coincidence, one of the questions was: What’s the full name of the Captain of the Galaxion? Heck, I thought I was a shoe-in for this one– I almost didn’t answer because I thought it would be cheating– but I wasn’t even the first to answer correctly! (I can’t decide whether I should be embarrassed or pleased, but I’m leaning towards the latter. ) What’s more, several of the folks playing– including the one who beat me– were even able to come up with Fusella’s middle name! Do you know her middle name? I thought that was pretty obscure trivia, but this might be another case of me forgetting what all I’ve put in the comic and/or website over the years. Congrats to the pirate who goes by the handle Southern Comfort for being a Galaxion trivia geek (and also fast at the keyboard)!
Aaaand, as long as I’m at it, I might as well throw in the link: if you’re interested in joining our small-but-feisty Galaxion Fleet on Star Pirates, you can go here. I’ll be able to see any new players who’ve signed up via that link, and I’ll be able to send you an invitation to the Fleet. Arrr!
Lovely touch in the final frame on the middle row. I needed a second look to work out just what was going on.
…yeah. And at that point Carl knew what was going on, but not for whom yet.
The outer perimeter team hasn’t reported in yet.
Thats because they’re dead/dying…
Not so fast-! Maybe they just found a pub!
Yes, that big pub in the sky…
So, I’m guessing Carl Heraba is a Second Lieutenant and Tremayne a First Lieutenant, else he wouldn’t be addressing her as “ma’am”. Funny thing though, by the look of it she has two bars on her shoulder -one thin and one thick, the sign for a First Lieutenant in the Canadian Army (In Romania we use two thin bars for this rank and most nations use two stars) and we see on page 166 that so does Carl on his sleeve (on previous pages had absolutely no insignia rank whatsoever), making them equal rank. It would have been normal then to just address Tremayne by her name and rank after saluting or just her name if they already knew each other.
That’s right… Carl is a 2nd Lieutenant and Tremayne is a 1st. I may have messed up on the stripes from time to time. Feel free to let me know where, and I will fix it for the printed version! They’re based on Canadian air force ranks (but there’s no particular plot reason for that). The worksuits are supposed to have the rank denoted on the upper sleeve, just below the IP symbol, but I admit I’m not so good at doing those correctly.
Since Tara’s let the cat partially out of the bag, I will add that if you want to see my surprise, I’d recommend attending on Saturday. Right now, I’m not sure the surprise will be available on Sunday. However, if enough fans comment that they are coming – but on Sunday, I might be persuaded to change the day of the surprise
::waves:: There are times when I wish I were on the other coast… except for winter.
will somebody please tell us what the surprise is ?
I have no doubt that Tara will post pictures after the con.
