Thanks to everyone who came out to Kids Read Comics this past weekend! The rain held out, miraculously, so nobody’s comics got overly wet. Big thanks go out to the organizers, especially Jerzy Drozd, Dan Mishkin, Edith Burney of the Chelsea District Library, and Dan Merrit of Green Brain Comics for all their efforts. It wasn’t a big show by any means, but the nice thing about quiet little shows is you get a rare opportunity to chat at length with the attendees as well as your fellow creators. I heard so many neat stories– like Ryan Estrada who is probably on his way to Costa Rica as I type this, to draw comics there until he decides it’s time to pick a new country to experience. Or Diana Nock, who led a “Build-a-Bot” workshop that totally inspired my 9-yr-old to draw lots of robot comics. I also want to give a special shout-out to Perry, who made my day when he brought by a small stack of my old comics for me to sign– including a copy of my very first minicomic (the cover of which you can see here) from 1993! Talk about a time warp. I happened to notice on the inside front cover I had written, “Find me at a con and I’ll draw something in this space!” Perry was amused to see I kept the promise, even after 17 years.
Please be sure to check out my blog post below for something that might be a fun diversion for Galaxion readers!
Poor Carl! He sure is getting the rough side of Scavina’s tongue. And Patty looks like she could take a nap sitting up!
About time…!
I’m thinking that there would be a massive information-exchange automatically, (unless of course, this happens all the time.)
So this is strange that she actually has to force Carl to tell her.
You’d better start talking Carl, and make it good- several million readers want to know what happened on that planet ! !
I suspect Carl assumes they already know much more about what happened than they actually do…
If he doesn’t want to tell her, it’s because there isn’t any good news to tell.
Frankly, I’m surprised the General even let him go long enough to take them somewhere else to tell his tale of woe.
Huh…didn’t Galaxion start over here, then move to Girlmatic? Or am I confusing this with a movie off of Keenspot?
Anyway…is that Patty? Yay, she didn’t die this time around (or…at least hasn’t died *yet*. :-/ )
I actually started at Girlamatic in 2006. I launched galaxioncomics.com about a year later, and ran both sites concurrently after that.
Patty, dead? I’m sure I have no idea what you could possibly mean.
*snirk* Unlike Paulomus below, I *have* read the original comic (well, part of it anyway–I snagged one of the collected from the middle of the story) , after all–and seeing that happen was one of the more disappointing bits of the section of the story I had. Patty’s one of my favorite characters…after all, how can you not like someone who could potentially defuse an interstellar war just by wearing a hat to a meeting between them, her…unique fashion sense confusing both sides to thoroughly that noone can remember why they were bothering to fight in the first place!
Hmm. Of course, that may be why she was targeted, given some of the…abilities these people have (trying not to spoil too much)–she was facing the dreaded Fashion Critic!
I must admit I’m starting to share some of Scavina’s impatience with Carl at this point, though I imagine he does have his reasons. I haven’t read the ‘original’ comic so I’m speculating here, but I guess the fate of the Hiawatha’s crew might have some connection with the political/military conflict going on here. So maybe the answers are both too complex and unsatisfying to be easily explained.
Well, the original comic is not necessarily a good guideline for what will happen next. But yes, there is much going on here.
Indeed…since if I recall the original, Scavina wasn’t even *there* on the surface…
YES!! JACK BAUER MODE!
(…ok. I’ll calm down and at least PRETEND being a civilized human being…)
(…or maybe not: SCAVINA! CARL’S KNEECAPS ARE STILL INTACT! AN OPPORTUNITY FOR ACQUIRING VALUABLE INFORMATION!!)
I don’t know the original either but I’m speculating… that something like what happened in Greg Bear’s ‘Eon’ might have gone down.
Speaking of Kids Read Comics… Here’s Tara’s interview from that wonderful event.
