Here we go again…?
I hope all of you who are celebrating have a great Easter weekend, and we’ll see you back here on Tuesday for the shocking conclusion to this scene!! (Well… no, I suspect most of you won’t be shocked at all.)
(Oh, and in case you missed it, Darvin made a guest appearance yesterday. )
I totally missed it. Shame on me (since I knew it was his birthday!).
Aw… panel 1 made me start worrying about Patty again…
I have a new found respect for Vessa for providing this much needed reality check. Greater even than when she opened up a can of whoop-ass on Farmer Vorhees with Zan’s probe.
Also: Drums! Drums! Drums in the Deep! They are coming…
Proximity alerts always go BEE BEE BEE BEE at the last possible moment, or the moment right after that.
After all these years, shouldn’t someone have invented a ‘plenty far enoughity alert’?
@J.Wilde: LOL!! And they have a cave troll.
Hmm… now that I think about it… “new” could imply “different”. So the Contact Team might have a slight chance of not being attacked. But I’m gonna shut up now.
I know this is going to sound stupid, but… is there any bbCode or HTML formatting I can use here? Am puzzled.
And so we begin again. I’m going to be utterly presumptuous and say that Patty has the look of a person who knows Vessa is right but can’t reconcile Vessa’s reality check with her own Jax Austustarian ideals. That and that arm is probably REALLY hurting right now
Vessa does make a really good point, surveillance from on high be it a space ship or a 21st century drone are all well and good but it doesn’t substitute for good old boots on the ground performing a good recce (i.e. reconnaissance) of the the area beforehand.
With the probe probably out of action and without any time to pick up any of the makeshift weapons the Farmers/natives had, they could be in for a rough ride.
Or they could meet a more friendlier group who could have possibly been following them from a distance since the last contact in the woods and may take more diplomatic approach such as possibly threatening the survey team with pointy sticks and taking them prisoner rather than just outright attacking them without hesitation like the last group of natives.
Why do I think that the 22nd century equivalent of ‘boots on the ground’ will be ‘bots on the ground’?
Because those dear little iRobots ( http://www.irobot.com/sp.cfm?pageid=171 ) are so cute.
Roomba… Scooba… Packbot… Negotiator… Intimidator… Headsquisher…
They haven’t built those last two yet in this timeline? Oops, better get the Titormobile recalibrated. Darn Kerr metric black holes keep coming out of alignment.
Carry on about your daily lives.
@Prestwick – part of me thinks that Patty may not really be into such philosophical battlegrounds right now – she’s “spaced out” at least twice since that bug bite in Chapter 4, and I have to wonder just what’s going on with her, medically speaking.
That and the fact that she was the only person directly attacked, makes me wonder if there’s a connection between the bugs, the vast devastation, and the reason why the locals are so hostile…
@Nate: while I’m cringing at the thought of robots with names like “Headsquisher” (calling Arnold S.!), I do have to wonder… why *aren’t* there more robots in the Galaxioverse?
@Andrew: Disorientation due to shock from broken arm and bug bites? They haven’t stopped to check that properly yet have they?
The broken arm, maybe… but not the bug bite I don’t think. Maybe it’s because I’ve watched too many Outer Limits episodes, but “seemingly innocent cut/scratch” sometimes evolves to “killer disease/parasite/mutation”… >_>
Is Aria looking a litte (lot) more anime this week?
Oh no! Aria’s Kindle has a proximity alert!
Oh man, I’m so slow in responding to the comments this week!
@Insectoid: Some of the basic HTML code will work in the comments. You probably don’t need it, but for those that do (like me!), here is a site that lists a number of the common HTML codes you can use in comment sections like this one. For those more familiar with HTML, this page lists all the codes that will work with WordPress.
@Andrew: Yeah, you’re right… not a lot of robots. The explanation for why that is might well just boil down to the fact that I’m much happier drawing people than machinery! Should robots have a place in the Galaxioverse? I will have to ponder that.
@Kev: That does happen sometimes.
@Stewart: A long time ago I named their little tablets “Abacus” (Abacuses? Abacusi?). Given the way technology is vastly overreaching my ability to imagine the future, I’m beginning to think that name was a good choice.
As much as I enjoy reading all the plot speculation, I’m trying not to give away any spoilers. You guys are making it really difficult for me to keep biting my tongue!
@Tara: “You probably don’t need it…”
Oh, but formatting is very useful for linking to previous pages, among other things (that link chosen because I still can’t stop laughing…), and for fiendish puns comedic effect.
D’oh. Strikethrough didn’t work
Aba…cuses, I guess. I’m pretty sure it’s Greek, and the -i is a Latin thing.
@insectoid, I’d forgotten about that image, lol.
