Ever since seeing The Martian (and reading the book, for that matter, but the movie was more recent), I can no longer hear “vegetables in space”* without thinking of potatoes. No spoilers, but let’s hope our friend Hidoshi here has some alternative methods of growing stuff at his disposal.
Darvin mentioned Hidoshi back in Chapter Seven, for those who like to keep track of such things.
*(In other semi-recent veggies-in-space news, the astronauts on the ISS have achieved lettuce.)
Mmm, space veggies.
Yay! New comic! Thanks!
Hold on now! Has it been mentioned before that Anna and Hidoshi are married?
Never mind, I see that you dropped a little hint about it when you first mentioned him.
If I were Hidoshi, probably the very *first* thing that I’d do is recommend that the crew be limited to two meals per day for the next several weeks — meanwhile weighing them everyday and seeing who starts losing weight the fastest, and adjusting their food intake to compensate. (The kid that they took aboard would, of course, be exempt — she needs all the food that they can spare for her until she’s at least in her late teens.)
