I just wish I could work out what is going on here. Clearly Aira is dreaming or experiencing some sort of altered state of consciousness, but beyond that it’s all a mystery. Which I guess it’s supposed to be.

I think of Aria as the narrator around whom the rest of the story revolves.

Sorry to hear that! Aria has, despite many variations of the comic, ended up being the “straight man”. (I mean that in the comedic sense of the term.) At one time I despaired over the fact that she’s more subdued, but now I see her as a reasonably realistic part of a varied cast. We can’t all be strong personalities. This part of the chapter happens to be more about learning about the Miesti than about Aria– once again, she plays the foil. But that will change. Hopefully you’ll find her more interesting by the time we get to the end of Chapter Nine.

I’m sorry, I can’t wait for that section to be over. Of all of the important characters, Aria never struck me as particularly interesting; she’s not flawed enough.

And her current state makes it even worse than usual. The Captain and the General are the interesting characters, and the rest of the survey team are fun too. Aria is comparatively… bland.

I guess I missed the whole geocache mixup. Just as well – it’d be quite a commute for me to get to Toronto.

The comments of the two Rautani here are interesting. I’m beginning to think that the Miesti and/ or the Rautani form a group mind of sorts with each person sharing all their thoughts with the others. It also sounds like bringing someone new into the group mind is a rough experience on all involved. Perhaps a newly assimilated mind threatens the stability of the group somehow, much like a transplanted organ might have a risk of rejection?

D’oh! That’s what I get for trying to do two things at once. I fixed the link now to what it should have been.

But if any of you find that particular geocache in the Rouge, let me know because I’m still looking for it!

(I guess since I took the link down the rest of you will have no idea what we’re talking about. But for any Toronto-area geocachers who are curious, I’m talking about the final location of this one.)

I get the ‘know’ reference, but I dont get the google coordinate to a part of the east side of Toronto. I guess it’s a difficult reference for me to get in the context of the story – perhaps someone else with a more twisted mind than mine would be able to identify the connection.
