She’s not part of a military organization, but she is captain of her ship. Well, normally she is. For the duration of the mission Scavina is in command and that’s who Alex normally reports to, but Scavina is with the Survey Contact Team at the moment, having left Fusella in charge. So she has authority over Alex. And Darvin (who, incidentally, also does not have a rank).
