No need to worry, Tara–SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO, while not perfect, is pretty great, and captures the essence of those long-ago programs even while reorienting some of their details in order to craft a singular two-hour film rather than a serialized program. It’s ace.

Even though they nailed the Yamato with cg fx, the basic idea is lost in a sea of dorky-ness.
The world’s last hope! All of those dedicated engineers sweating behind their control panels! Flaming cinematic explosions! Grim faces showing the correct emotions for bidding someone goodbye as they rocket off to certain death!
The actors are probably offering their humble apologies to all their friends.
