I think Sir is usually pretty safe, though, for addressing people of any rank. (Except possibly monarchs and judges?)

Slowly, we are finding out things. But I imagine that one or more of the listeners at the table is getting ready to ask important questions in an impatient manner: “Where is rest of crew?” “Who are people with garden tools?” “Why is it unsafe?”
