You may notice that these early ship designs incorporate a fair bit more heavy weaponry than the current model. I fell into the idea that the coolest part about science fiction is when they blow things up in a spectacular way. And you gotta admit, the Wave Motion Gun was spectacular in spades.
A.M.E, near as I can remember, stood for “Anti-Magnetic Energy”. Well, I guess it makes about as much sense as dilithium crystals.
