It changes the pronunciation just so slightly. If it were translated ga-ra instead of gya-ra it would make the a make the “a” a stronger sound, so that galaxion would sound less like one fluid word.

Another example of this is my own name: Cassie translates as Kyashii, not Kashii.

Odd that the Japanese pronunciation for galaxy is gyarakushii instead of garakushii, but that does seem to be the case (A more accurate transliteration of the red bit would be: gyarakushiion)
